32 weeks & big news

Today is another milestone in this pregnancy (every week is now). I had an appointment this morning and everything is going well. I even scheduled my c-section....EEEK!! I am scheduled for Monday, October 25th @ 8am. I will be 35w6d. Now this date could change but for now, that's set for the birth of these babies! It's 4 weeks from yesterday. I will post a belly pic tomorrow.

By now, your babies weigh 3.75 pounds (pick up a large jicama) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus. You're gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, they'll gain a third to half of their birth weight during the next 7 weeks as they fatten up for survival outside the womb. They now have toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Their skin is becoming soft and smooth as they plump up in preparation for birth.

31 weeks

Appointment Update:
My ankles/feet have been really swollen the last couple days so I made sure the mention this at my appointment today. My blood pressure is looking great but the medicine I am on to ease contractions is also a blood pressure med so they decided to take some blood to check my levels since my blood pressure isn't exactly accurate. My cervix is still looking great, although it did shrink just a bit since the last check 2 weeks ago but I was told that is normal since I am getting farther along. The babies look great and are getting very crowded in my belly. I am measuring at 46 weeks for a singleton! The doc still thinks I will make it to 36 week. YIKES, I cannot even imagine my belly/discomfort in 5 weeks. It will all be worth it though, I know.

This week, your babies measure over 16 inches long. They weigh about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. They can turn their heads from side to side, and their arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath their skin. They're probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby's kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy.

Another trip to L&D (labor & delivery)

Yesterday (and for a few days) my stomach has been really hard and yesterday I also started to have some pelvic pressure. I decided to call the doctor's office before they closed and get their opinion. Of course she said they wanted me to come in to L&D and be monitored for awhile. Barton and I drove downtown and were warmly greeted when we arrived and put into a room. I was hooked up to all sorts of fetal monitors to check on the babies. The babies all sounded great but my uterus was contracting like crazy and was very irritated (that was the tightening I was feeling). They gave me a drug to help stop the contractions and it didn't work so I received a shot and that stopped them quickly. The contractions weren't that big of a deal because they weren't effecting my cervix, it was still long and closed but they still wanted to get them to stop. I was able to come home after about 4 hours there and am now on a med every 4 hours to help keep my uterus relaxed until I deliver.

I think last night was a real wake up call that I need to get a hospital bag packed, print out my birth plan etc. so that's what I plan to do today.

Here's a pic of me all hooked up to the monitors (one for each baby).

4 Years

4 years ago today Barton and I were married. Granted, the weather was awful but in the end we were married and had a great day. I cannot believe all the things that have happened in our life in the past 4 years. Here's to the next chapter in our lives!

30 weeks!!

30 weeks is yet another big milestone in this triplet pregnancy. Each week we celebrate that these babies are still inside. Things are getting done around here to make sure we're ready. I have pretty much put myself on modified bed rest because the sheer weight of my belly is just too much for me to carry around for very long. Baby B has decided to lodge himself in my left ribcage which needless to say is VERY uncomfortable no matter which position I am in (laying, standing, etc.) I have a Dr. appointment this afternoon and will update tomorrow if there is anything new to report, I doubt there will be. Our next goal to get to is 32 weeks!

I'm giving you two belly shots this week to get the full effect. One from the side and one facing front. As you can see in the front facing, I no longer have a belly button and my tummy just looks weird (click on pics to make larger).

Your babies are about 15.7 inches long now, and weigh almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds each of them, but that volume will decrease as they get bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Their eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after they're born, they'll keep their eyes closed for a good part of the day. When they do open them, they'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means they can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

Update

We had a little bit of worry this week but everything is still perfect. On Tuesday I went to my appointment and they drew some blood just to make sure I wasn't anemic (which is pretty common for multiples). They said no news is good news so when the phone rang the next day I was a bit concerned. The nurse said that my hemoglobins and hemocratins were about 2 points above where they'd like to see them and she wanted me to go in and get more blood drawn just to make sure everything was OK. Sometimes when they see elevated levels it can be an early indication of preeclampsia. I went in and got more blood drawn and those results came back completely normal so there is no need for concern at this time. I will have more blood drawn on Tuesday at my weekly appointment just to make sure everything is still OK. I feel good that they are monitoring me so close. I will update again after my Tuesday appointment as well as post a belly pic...I don't know how it can get any bigger:)

Have a great weekend.

29 week appointment

29 Week Appointment:
I had an appointment this morning and all three babies continue to do great. My cervix is strong as always and the doc really thinks I can make it to 36-37 weeks. The doc said I didn't need to get my cervix checked anymore and can just do growth ultrasounds every 3-4 weeks. I asked if I could have one more cervix check in 2 weeks just to reassure me and she said that was fine. My blood pressure is looking good. I am now going to start having office visits to monitor everything since I am getting farther along. My belly is measuring at 40 weeks if I was having one baby..no wonder people keep asking me if I am due any day now! I have gained 45 lbs. total!

Baby A (girl): 3 lbs. (55th percentile for a singleton)
Baby B (boy): 2 lbs 5 oz. (25th percentile for a singleton)
Baby C (boy): 2 lbs 6 oz. (28th percentile for a singleton)

I asked if we should be concerned that the girl is so much bigger and the doctor said that we can't compare them and they are all looking healthy.

Your babies are growing rapidly now. This week they weigh about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. Their muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and their heads are getting bigger to accommodate their growing brains – which is busy developing billions of neurons. Every day, about 200 milligrams of calcium is deposited in your baby's skeleton, which is now hardening. With this rapid growth, it's no surprise that your baby's nutritional needs reach their peak during this trimester.

Just had to share...

I get email updates about where the babies should be at right now and today's email said that the babies can now see each other in utero! I think that's so cool that all three babies can now see each other as they look around inside.

Nursery Pics (picture post)

Here are the most up to date pics of the nursery. We still need to hang the mobiles over the cribs but it is pretty much done.
