28 Weeks & Belly Pic

By this week, your babies weigh two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of their head to their heels. They can blink their eyes, which now sport lashes. With their eyesight developing, they may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. They're also developing billions of neurons in their brains and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

Here is my belly in all its hugeness at 28 weeks!

I am feeling good but definitely starting to slow down a bit. My back feels 100% better and is no longer an issue.

Next appointment is Tuesday, September 7th for a growth u/s.

27 week update

Update: On Thursday or Friday I had the feeling that I tweaked my back (no idea how). There is very little I can take so I took some Tylenol and tried to stretch it out. By Saturday night the pain was so incredibly bad I could not walk, move, or lay down without tears. I was also having trouble breathing because I couldn't relax enough to get a solid breath. I finally called the on-call nurse at my doctor's office on Sunday and told her what was going on. She said although I may think it's just a tweaked back it's also showing symptoms of a blood clot and she wanted me to head to the ER to make sure. I got to the ER was was taken directly up to L&D (labor and delivery) where they hooked all three babies up to monitors to make sure they were OK. Oh they were just fine, kicking and carrying on like crazy. The doctor came in and talked to me a bit about possibly getting a CT scan to rule out a blood clot. I asked her if that was safe for the babies and she said it was but if we could avoid it that would be best. So we opted for me to stay the night and see how the pain went with muscle relaxers and some pain meds (all safe for babies). Within an hour of receiving the drugs I was feeling better. So I stayed overnight and they did another monitoring of the babies in the morning (sounding great). I was supposed to have a Dr. appointment today but they did everything they needed to yesterday afternoon. My cervix is looking great still and I also did my gestational diabetes test which I should get the results of today some time. Busy couple of days but I am home now and feeling much better and the babies are doing great.

Here's what's going on this week in my belly:

This week, your babies weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and are about 14 1/2 inches long with their legs extended. They're sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing their eyes, and perhaps even sucking their fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your babies' brains are very active now. While their lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if they were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother them, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.

26 weeks

The network of nerves in your babies' ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. They may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner's as you chat with each other. They're inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of their lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when they're born and take that first gulp of air. And they're continuing to put on baby fat. They now weigh about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches (an English hothouse cucumber) from head to heel.

Guess Arrival Date

On the upper right I have put a little baby game where you can guess the date of the triplets. My 40 week due date is November 23rd but I hope to make it to the middle/end of October. So take your best guess as to when they will arrive.

25 week appointment update

Our growth u/s went great today. All three babies are looking great.
I have officially gained 36 pounds and am right on track (they would like to me to gain 70 lbs during this pregnancy).

Here are their current weights:
Baby A (girl): 1 lb. 12 oz. (52nd percentile for a singleton)
Baby B (boy): 1 lb. 9 oz. (40th percentile for a singleton)
Baby C (boy): 1 lb, 9 oz. (40th percentile for a singleton)
Those percentiles are great considering there are three in there.

My cervix is looking great at 5 cm, long and closed. To clear up some confusion, I am NOT DILATED at all. No strict bed rest at this time, just doing what I have been which is taking it easy and listening to my body.

We did get some 3D u/s images today. I labeled them a little so you know what you're looking at. Each baby seems to have chubby cheeks:)

24 Weeks (viability)

Today marks the 24th week! This is a huge milestone in this pregnancy. If the babies were to be born after this point (which we DO NOT WANT for another 12 weeks) they have a good chance of surviving.

Your babies are growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts them at just over a pound. Since they're almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), they cut a pretty lean figure at this point, but their bodies are filling out proportionally and they'll soon start to plump up. Their brains are also growing quickly now, and taste buds are continuing to develop. Their lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help their air sacs inflate once they hit the outside world. Their skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

Shower #2

I had my 2nd shower yesterday and it was so great. Again, people's generosity is simply amazing! Carri did an awesome job hosting it.
